Chris Pethick was born in Plymouth, Devon and grew up in the countryside village of Mary Tavy surrounded by nature, hills and the beautiful scenery of Dartmoor. Growing up in this idyllic location, Chris developed an interest in art and the natural world and in particular the colours of nature and the characters of animals. During his school years in Mary Tavy and Tavistock, it became apparent that Chris's favourite subject was art and design and so this led to him becoming a design student at Plymouth College of Art and Design in September 2000. Studying in such a creative environment enabled Chris to fully immerse himself in creativity and gave him the opportunity to expand his horizons by experimenting in different art mediums including Acrylic, Oil, Charcoal, Silk Screen Printing and Photography. It was during this time aged just 16 that Chris was commissioned by the psychic spoon bender, Uri Geller, to paint him a 2m x 3m oil on canvas of his late friend and music legend Michael Jackson standing on a plinth and holding his silhouetted hand up to the setting sun.
After his early student years in Devon, Chris began to nurture his love for photography and moved to Salisbury, Wiltshire in 2004 where he spent the next 3 years studying photography at Salisbury College and Bournemouth University. Whilst an undergraduate at Bournemouth University, Chris found his niche photographing animals and won the Grand Prize in Panasonic's Photographer of the Year competition 2006 which gave him a 1 week all inclusive stay at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Chris also won the PIEA PMA Grand First Prize for the Colleges and Universities category 2007 where he competed against more than 6,000 other entries from photography students around the world and had his winning image "Donk" exhibited in Las Vegas before going on a world tour of photography institutions.
Chris is now living in Salisbury, Wiltshire with his wife Marita and working as a freelance photographer and graphic designer. He has recently licensed his work to companies such as Dynmark International and Ohio's Rock radio station QFM 96 for use on advertising campaigns. Some more of his work can also been found on consumer retail products such as books, greetings cards, tax disc holders, kids rucksacks and calendars in both Europe and the USA, as well as internationally in publications including: Practical Photography, Photography Monthly, What Digital Camera, Digital SLR Photography, Digital Photographer, Shutterbug, Popular Photography, Art of England, BluePrint, WILD, The Times Educational Supplement and The Field Magazine.A few of his latest photography achievements include licensing one of his portraits of a cute piglet to the US animal rights charity PETA which appeared as the main component on their controversial billboard ad campaign "Try Vegan" in Chicago as well as in 24 London Underground stations to highlight animal cruelty and promote Veganism.
In April 2014 Chris gave his first ever talk and presentation about his work to the English students of the Instituto Pedagogico Nacional Monterrico in Lima, Peru.
Most recently Chris's work has appeared on packets of throat lozenges in Japan, the front cover of Terra Nuova Magazine in Italy, the front cover of "The Dog Encyclopedia for Kids" in the USA ISBN: 978-1-62370-694-4, the front cover of a Children's educational book entitled "Reptiles - A Question and Answer Book" ISBN: 9781491406335 and on the back of the Novel "All I ever wanted" by author Kristan Higgins in the USA ISBN: 9780373778492
